On Monday night, Dead & Company hosted 50+ students and faculty from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School at our show in Sunrise, FL, a hometown show for me. Just two weeks ago these students survived a mass shooting at their school that claimed the lives of 17 people. They have since mobilized to advocate for and spark a national conversation about gun law reform. A dear friend of mine here in South Florida, Jeff Kasky, has two sons at MSD and the older of the two (Cameron) has been leading the charge. I’m really proud to support these students in their mission and grateful to my Dead & Company bandmates for doing so as well!
Monday’s show was an incredibly special night with some of the bravest young people I have ever met. These young heroes wear T-shirts, not capes. Thanks to all the students for their courage and commitment to creating change. It was so amazing to see you smiling and dancing. Your courage is inspiring! Students and family members will be taking to the streets on March 24 to “demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools”. Visit March for our Lives to join the movement and find a march near you.
